While teaching in Columbia, South Carolina our school was involved with The University of South Carolina String Project. It is a wonderful program where string music undergraduates provide string instrument instruction to children. This unique program helps the college students grow in their own musical skills and gives them an opportunity to teach while still an undergraduate. The reasonably priced instruction can start at third grade.
Through the years I had countless students who were involved with the program. Quite a few of the students continued with their instrument including two who went on to play cello at the college level. It is a beautiful instrument as attested by this video by Steven Sharp Nelson.
